Travel to Cuba updates for Canadians

  • The documents required to travel to Cuba are: a valid passport, a tourist card (the tourist card is included with your airplane ticket and is given by the airline on board), proof of vaccination (digital or printed copy )
  • PCR or antigen test is NOT required before entering Cuba for VACCINATED passengers traveling from CANADA to Cuba (this regulation includes Cuban citizens residing or visiting Canada)
  • Unvaccinated passengers need a PCR 72 test before traveling to Cuba. To leave Canada if you are not vaccinated, please contact the airline directly.
  • Children under 12 do not need to be vaccinated or undergo a PCR or antigen test before traveling to Cuba
  • All vaccines and combination vaccines are accepted in Cuba.
  • TO RETURN TO CANADA FROM CUBA: As of April 1, 2022, only unvaccinated passengers must undergo an antigen test 24 hours before leaving Cuba. The antigen test can be done directly at the hotel, the cost is approximately 30 Canadian and can be paid by Debit/Visa Card or Visa Debit from Canadian banks only. Testing is by appointment only, coordinated by your tour operator’s representative at the hotel. If the passenger is not staying at a hotel, the antigen test can be performed at the nearest international clinic.
  • Medical insurance is required for Cuba, medical insurance must cover any type of medical emergency including covid, so in case of medical emergency the tourist is responsible for paying the costs, for this reason Cuba suggests to have medical insurance for all types of medical emergencies including covid. If you are unable to obtain insurance in Canada, you can purchase medical insurance in Cuba at the airport or visit For more information on what the insurance includes, contact the representative at the Insurance desk at the airport in Cuba.
  • Since January 1, 2022, travelers must complete the customs and health declaration form, this is done online and the website to visit is: All travelers must complete this information online 48 hours before traveling to Cuba. Once the form is completed, you will receive a QR code by email. You must show an electronic or printed version of the QR code to the authorities upon arrival. If you have any problems and you can’t fill out the form online because you don’t have internet access, the printed form will be available on arrival at the airport in Cuba to fill it out.
  • CURRENCY: The local currency is the Cuban Peso (CUP). The convertible peso has been discontinued and is no longer accepted in Cuba. US dollars are NOT accepted anywhere in Cuba, while Canadian currency is widely accepted. At tourist areas which includes hotels, restaurants and shopping malls, payment is only accepted with debit/visa cards or visa credit cards from Canadian banks. Customers who do not have a credit card can buy a prepaid card in Cuba at the airport or at any money exchange kiosks at hotels . Payments outside the tourist areas are all in Cuban pesos (CUP); We recommend exchanging Canadian dollars for pesos as needed and only if you plan to travel OUTSIDE of tourist areas, since you will not be able to change the remaining pesos into Canadian dollars at the end of the holiday.
  • In the event that a tourist tests positive for Covid in Cuba, the isolation time will be at the hotel where they are staying, A HOTEL ISOLATION SECTION WILL BE COORDINATED BY THE HOTEL. The tourist who tests positive will be isolated in the designated isolation section, tourist must comply with all hotel regulations and restrictions.
